Ruto: Kenya to get beneficial short rains, not El-Nino

President William Ruto announced that Kenya will not face the anticipated El-Nino rains, as initially predicted by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

During a church service in Dagoretti on Sunday, the President disclosed that the department has revised its forecast to predict short rains, which will bode well for the country’s agricultural sector.

President Ruto emphasized that this change will enable farmers to increase their crop yields, contributing to the nation’s food security.

He commended the modification, stating, “You see, the department has now said there will be no El-Nino; we will only have significant rains, which is even better for us to get to our farms and produce more.”

The Kenya Meteorological Department had initially warned of El-Nino rains occurring from mid-October to December but later clarified that the forecasted rains would be significant, not El-Nino.

Ruto also credited the success of his rain-seeking prayers held at Nyayo National Stadium in February. These prayers were followed by an extended period of rainfall, allowing farmers to produce more for the nation.

Ruto said, “There are those who criticized us when we prayed for rains at Nyayo Stadium. They said a whole president is praying for rain. Now see, we have more rains than we have had in four years; that is God’s doing.”

The President pledged that his administration would allocate additional resources and effort to boost agriculture and food production, ensuring the country’s food security.

In his remarks, Ruto indirectly addressed the opposition coalition Azimio la Umoja, which organized street protests earlier this year to voice concerns about the high cost of living.

He emphasized the importance of productive activities over demonstrations, saying, “That is why I keep saying maandamano won’t put food on the table. If people have to demonstrate, then let them demonstrate in the farms to produce more food.”

In February this year, Ruto led the nation in a prayer session during the National Prayer Day event. His prayer focused on requesting rain, abundant harvests, and a brighter future for Kenya, among other concerns.
