Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has once again taken aim at Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, this time for the alleged incompetence and lethargy in addressing the leaking roof issue at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement posted on his official handle, the UDA Senator dismissed Murkomen’s comments on the leaking roofs as inadequate, questioning why it would take a whole year to fix such a problem at JKIA while roads in Nandi County remained unaddressed.
Cherargei expressed his disappointment, labeling it the “highest incompetence and lethargy” on the part of CS Murkomen.
CS Murkomen had previously criticized the previous government for poor management, specifically highlighting the leaking roof incident at JKIA.
He blamed the inadequate maintenance of JKIA and 12 other airstrips across the country on shoddy work done by the previous administration.
Speaking at the Ukunda airstrip in Kwale County, Murkomen asserted that the renovation at JKIA in terminal 1C and I1 was sub-standard and meant to serve as a temporary solution.
He accused the previous government, led by ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta, of rushing projects without meeting required standards.
Cherargei and Murkomen had clashed previously in October over road contracts, with Murkomen accusing the senator of opposing a road contractor based on tribal considerations.
The exchange took place during the funeral of the son of Chesumei MP Paul Biego Polo. Murkomen emphasized the government’s commitment to fair contract awards without room for tribalism, while Cherargei advocated for priority to be given to local contractors.
The ongoing disagreement highlights the tensions between the two political figures, with each publicly expressing their grievances on matters of infrastructure and tribal representation in government contracts.
