The family of a 14-year-old girl who emerged as the top performer in the KCPE examinations at Nyalgunga Primary School in Alego/Usonga sub-county last year is facing confusion after she was mistakenly placed in Form One at Lenana, a boys’ school.
Gloria Adhiambo Owino and her family initially celebrated her impressive score of 389 points, qualifying her for admission to a national school.
However, their excitement turned to disappointment when Gloria attempted to download her admission letter and discovered that she had been assigned to Lenana School, a boys’ institution.
Speaking to Radio Ramogi at her parents’ residence in Nyalgunga trading center, Gloria expressed her frustration, explaining that she had chosen several National Schools, including Alliance, Starehe Girls, and Kisumu Girls.
Despite waiting for another admission letter, the mix-up persisted.
In addition to the placement confusion, Gloria now faces the risk of being unable to pursue her secondary education due to financial constraints.
While she desires to attend Kisumu Girls, she disclosed that her parents are unable to afford the school fees. She is appealing to the government, local leaders, and well-wishers to come to her aid, allowing her to fulfill her dream of becoming a medical doctor.
Gloria’s mother, Margaret Awuor Halowe, shared their unsuccessful attempts to secure scholarships from financial institutions and urged well-wishers to assist in correcting her daughter’s placement and supporting her education financially.
