Tsavo National Park earned global recognition on Tuesday as it was listed among the top 52 travel destinations of 2024 by the New York Times.
The park, known for its stunning natural beauty and particularly its elephant population, was highlighted as a must-visit location.
Tsavo is home to half of Kenya’s over 36,000 elephants, making it a major draw for visitors.
Spanning nearly 22,000 square meters, Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world.
The New York Times article emphasized the presence of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in the park, attributing it to the increasing number of elephants in the country.
The organization’s efforts include rehabilitating and releasing 200 elephant orphans, running anti-poaching teams, constructing water sources, and securing vulnerable boundaries.
John Chirchir, spokesperson for the Kenya Tourism Board, expressed that the global recognition is likely to attract more American tourists to Kenya. This acknowledgment coincided with Kenya’s push toward a visa-free era, aiming to encourage tourism and boost the country’s economy.
Kenya has consistently been ranked among the world’s best destinations, lauded for its sandy beaches, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural experiences.
In December, the country secured a spot among the top 10 most beautiful countries in Africa with Travel and Leisure Magazine highlighting its status as a wildlife haven, particularly during the great wildebeest migration.
