Duo Nabbed for Impersonating Mobile Service Agents and Stealing from Trader

Police in Embu County have apprehended two suspects accused of stealing money from a trader by impersonating agents of a mobile service provider.

Having contacted the trader through his phone, the individuals, identified as Evans Ngui and Jacline Mwende, managed to withdraw Ksh 24,000 using a mobile app before going into hiding.

“On January 18, 2024, the police in Embu County arrested two individuals who reportedly acquired money from an unsuspecting trader by posing as agents representing a mobile service provider, offering assistance,” stated the National Police Service.

After gaining access to the trader’s personal details, the suspects utilized a mobile application to withdraw Ksh 24,000 from his till number without authorization.

The duo, Ngui and Mwende, were apprehended at Kithimu Trading Centre and are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment by the DCI Embu.
