Pakistan has launched ‘retaliatory’ missile strikes targeting areas inside Iran’s borders. According to Pakistan government statements, the attacks were in retaliation for Tehran’s attack on Pakistani soil earlier this week.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry confirmed that the strikes targeted what they referred to as “terrorist hideouts” in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province.

The foreign ministry justified the military action, stating that it was carried out “in pursuit of Pakistan’s own security and national interest.”

The strikes, however, have not come without consequences, as Iranian state media reports at least nine casualties resulting from the attacks.

This recent exchange of hostilities began on Tuesday when Iran launched an attack on targets within Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

Tehran claimed it was targeting the Jaish al-Adl group, an organization both countries have accused each other of harboring and supporting for carrying out militant activities along their shared border.
