The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is currently investigating allegations of bribery involving officers at Kasarani Police Station, prompted by a TikTok video where a woman aired her frustrations over a matter she had been pursuing without success.
In the video, the woman, identified as Irene, narrated her ordeal, explaining that she had mistakenly sent a sum of Sh300,000 to the wrong number while in Saudi Arabia and had come to Kenya to resolve the issue. Despite reporting the incident to Kasarani DCI and providing details that led to tracing the location of the recipient, Irene claimed that officers demanded Sh20,000 for fuel to apprehend the suspect.
She further alleged that she was asked to send an additional Sh3,000 for a taxi when the police vehicle couldn’t access the location. Shockingly, Irene asserted that the person who received the money for the taxi turned out to be one of the officers involved in the case. Despite the arrest of the suspect, Irene claimed that the individual managed to bribe the officers with Sh100,000, leading to his release and subsequent threats directed at her.
In response to the video, the DCI stated through their official handle that they had initiated investigations into the matter. They assured the public that the findings would be disclosed once the probe concluded. “The Director DCI has directed the SubCounty Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO/DCIO) at Kasarani to fast track investigations into these allegations and report on the same,” the DCI stated. “We shall share the position of the matter including the action taken soon.”
Following her unpleasant interaction with the officers, Irene mentioned that she had blocked their numbers, as her inquiries were met with rude responses.
