Denmak FC caused a significant upset in the ongoing Football Kenya Federation Cup by defeating heavyweights Gor Mahia 5-4 in a post-match penalty shootout during their round of 32 clash at Ukunda Show Grounds, Kwale.
Despite the match ending goalless, Denmak emerged victorious in the penalty shootout. Meanwhile, Tusker FC secured a 2-1 win over Bumbani Stars at the same venue. Daniel Sakari opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute, followed by Eric Zakayo doubling Tusker’s lead in the 65th minute. Although Bumbani Stars managed to pull one back through Saidi Zamani in the 67th minute, Tusker held on to claim the victory and advance to the round of 32.
In another match at Police Sacco Stadium, Nairobi, Zetech Titans suffered a 4-3 defeat to Mara Sugar after both teams played out a goalless draw.
Defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Solian City FC, while Kariobangi Sharks narrowly edged past Nyamira Super Eagles with a 1-0 victory.
The victorious teams now await the draw for the round of 16, with the ultimate winner of the tournament earning the opportunity to represent the country in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.
