Residents of the Kimbo area in Juja, Kiambu County, are furious about the appalling condition of a six-kilometer road, asserting that it has adversely impacted their sexual lives due to the rough rides.
Protestors, who included Tuk Tuk operators, took to the streets, blocking the Kimbo-Matangini road with burning tires and stones for over two hours to vent their frustration at the local leadership, whom they accused of neglecting their plight.
Motorcycle riders argued that enduring long hours on the rugged road has strained their intimate relationships, as they often return home completely exhausted, leaving them unable to fulfill marital duties.
This they say has led to diminishing of their love life and relationships with their spouses.
“This road has been in a dire state for over four years now. For us boda boda operators, it’s affecting our marriages because our partners suspect we’re having affairs since we come home so tired and just go straight to sleep,” explained the protesters.
They criticized area MP George Koimburi and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi for merely paying lip service to the road’s condition, making empty promises about imminent action.
“We’re fed up with empty promises from our leaders, including the MP and the Governor. They keep telling us the road is budgeted for and repairs are imminent, but there’s been no progress,” said another resident, Simon Kariuki.
According to the protesters, the road only sees repair efforts when a politician’s relative or well-connected individual dies, or during campaign periods when it’s temporarily patched up with soil.
Police faced difficulties in clearing the blockade, resorting to teargas to disperse the unruly youths at one point.
