The Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA), Robert Alai, has become the latest member of the Azimio coalition to weigh in on Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential aspirations for 2027.
In a statement posted on his social media account, Alai, an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party member aligned with Raila Odinga, expressed skepticism about Kalonzo inheriting Odinga’s support base.
“Kalonzo CAN’T inherit Raila’s support base. Hawezi, even with an endorsement. Baba’s support base needs an authoritative and decisive leader. Kalonzo is considered wishy-washy and indecisive by our support base,” he explained.
Alai clarified that this was his personal opinion and not that of the ODM Party.
However, Professor Makau Mutua held a different view, stating the previous day on the same platform that Kalonzo Musyoka stood the best chance of succeeding Raila Odinga among other proposed Azimio leaders.
“Wakwitu Kalonzo Musyoka stands the best chance. Wengine sahau!” he wrote.
The discussion arose after eight names, including loyalists of Raila Odinga, were featured in the media, anticipating support in the 2027 elections.
This development follows Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s affirmation that he would be a presidential candidate in 2027. He cited his experience in politics and his ability to lead the nation and improve the economy and lives of Kenyans.
Speaking in Embu town on Tuesday, February 13, Kalonzo also promised to scrap the housing levy through his first executive order and criticized the government for imposing heavy taxes on Kenyans, particularly low-income earners.
