A man accused of impersonating assistant chiefs in two sublocations within Likuyani subcounty, purportedly engaging in extortion from residents, has been apprehended.
The suspect, identified as Jotham Wekesa, was discovered in possession of numerous rubber stamps belonging to various assistant chiefs and schools at the time of his arrest. Additionally, rubber stamps for advocates in Eldoret town were seized from him.
Soy assistant chief Oliver Likuyani, one of the officials Wekesa allegedly impersonated, expressed suspicion upon encountering a rubber stamp presented to him by a resident on Friday. Wekesa is also accused of posing as Seregea assistant chief, who is currently on leave, and Likuyani chief.
Following this discovery, Wekesa was handed over to Likuyani police station for further processing.
Reports indicate that Wekesa is employed in one of the private offices in Likuyani market. Ineah Lihanda, the Nyumba Kumi chairman for Likuyani, acknowledged Wekesa as one of his trusted members in Soy center. Lihanda revealed that Wekesa has been involved in signing documents for parents seeking birth certificates, national ID cards, and bursary application forms.
