In a tragic turn of events at the Kom-Durte gold mining site in Merti, Isiolo County, a suspect met his untimely death by lynching after he was accused of being involved in a robbery targeting miners of cash and minerals.
According to police reports, the lynching occurred after the suspect and his two accomplices robbed a woman working near the gold mine site, seizing cash and an undisclosed quantity of gold.
The daring robbery prompted an immediate response from the local community, who swiftly mobilized to apprehend the suspects. In an act of vigilante justice, the enraged locals managed to catch two of the suspects, unleashing a violent assault that resulted in the death of one perpetrator.
The other suspect was fortunately rescued by the police before suffering a similar fate at the hands of the mob.
Upon inspection of the deceased suspect, authorities discovered stab wounds on his body, indicating a fierce struggle during the confrontation.
Additionally, police recovered a sum of Sh15,620 in cash and 5.8 grams of gold from the deceased suspect’s person, further implicating him in the robbery.
The injured suspect was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the body of the deceased was respectfully transferred to the local mortuary pending further investigation.
