A female Probation Police Constable (PPC) from the Prisons Academy and Training School in Jinja, Uganda is accused of fatally stabbing her lover, also based in the prisons department during a domestic dispute.
The harrowing event occurred on Sunday, February 18, 2024, within the premises of the training academy.
The accused, Mercy Alowo, recently completed a police basic course and was undergoing practical training at the Jinja Road Police Division.
Reports however indicate that a heated argument escalated into violence, leading Alowo to allegedly stab Lance Corporal prison warder Wilfred Okori. Despite efforts to save him, Okori tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to the Luzira Staff Clinic.
Prisons spokesperson Mr. Frank Baine expressed the sorrow of the institution, stating, “The victim is from Apac district, while the culprit hails from Totoro. Everything possible will be done to ensure that justice is served.”
Alowo was swiftly apprehended by prison security personnel and subsequently turned over to the police for further handling. The incident highlights the gravity of the situation and the need for thorough investigation and due process.
“In 2022, over 10 police officers took their own lives, with infidelity cited as one of the major contributing factors.”
