The Senate Liaison Committee has started investigations into the sharp decline in revenue collection in Nakuru County, dropping from Ksh3.6 billion to Ksh1.6 billion within a year.
During a gathering at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha, the committee, comprised of various committee chairpersons, highlighted the Nakuru County executive’s failure to comply with court orders regarding the ongoing War Memorial Hospital issue.
Senator Mohammed Chute, the Committee Chair, expressed deep concern about the significant drop in revenue collection and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation. He asserted that the Senate, in its oversight role, would delve into the factors contributing to the sharp decline over the past year.
Chute remarked, “The revenue has decreased to Ksh.2.6 million. If this is for a full year… then this is a very serious matter.” He accused the County Assembly of aligning with the Executive and neglecting its oversight responsibilities, which has contributed to the current crisis.
Echoing these sentiments, Senate Deputy Majority Leader and Nakuru Senator Tabitha Keroche called for a comprehensive review to understand the reasons behind the rapid drop in revenue collection.
Keroche critisized the county assembly, asserting that its failure in oversight duties has played a significant role in the county’s current crisis.
