In a disturbing incident that unfolded on Saturday, February 17, a police officer based in Kisumu reportedly shot a security guard during a confrontation.
The officer, known to typically chauffeur the Kisumu County Commissioner, was embroiled in a dispute with night guards near the K-City business center. The altercation escalated, culminating in the officer firing his weapon and injuring one of the guards.
“After the shooting, a crowd got really mad and attacked the policeman,” said Kisumu Central Sub County Police Commander Peter Mulai.
It was not immediately ascertained as to what may have led to the confrontation between the police officer and the guards.
The wounded guard was transported to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Fortunately, the bullet struck him in the buttocks, and medical professionals are currently attending to his non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway. Presently, both the injured guard and the police officer are receiving treatment at the hospital, the latter also sustaining injuries amidst the ensuing turmoil from the crowd.
