President William Ruto has appointed former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich as a Senior Advisor on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy for the Kenya Kwanza government.

The appointment of Rotich was announced on Thursday, February 08, by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.

This appointment comes two months after Rotich’s recent acquittal in the Ksh 63 Billion scandal surrounding the Arror and Kimwarer dams.

Rotich was suspended from his position in July 2019 alongside his then Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, amid allegations related to the dams scandal. He would later relinquish his position and spend months appearing in courts to answer to the charges.

The former CS, along with eight other co-accused individuals, were however cleared of all charges by Trial Magistrate Eunice Nyutu.

In the ruling, the magistrate concluded that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to substantiate the case against them.

Rotich comes back into the government at a time when Kenyans are grappling with a high cost of living amidst a high tax burden.
