University of Nairobi students and staff who rely on university kitchens for meals will now be required to process their payments through the e-Citizen platform, as per a directive from the Kenya government to the institution.

In a memo issued by the Vice-Chancellor through the corporate affairs office, the university also outlined the new payment procedure explaining that it was in compliance with the government’s directive.

“The Kenyan Government has mandated that all payments to the University of Nairobi be made via the E-Citizen platform,” the reads in part.

“Complying with this directive, the University has established the required systems to enable clients to make payments through E-Citizen. To pay for services, please follow the instructions provided below,” the memo added.

The instructions provided specify that all meal payments should be made through paybill number 222222, with users entering the Outlet/Live identifier in capital letters followed by a hyphen and their name (e.g., NUK1-name) as the account number.

The university further provided specific payment details (Outlet/Live Identifiers) for various kitchens across the main campus and satellite campuses within Nairobi.

This directive applies to kitchens across different campuses and comes a month after the government transitioned all its services to the e-Citizen platform.
