Wanted fugitive, Kelvin Kang’ethe has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at his hideout in Kajiado County.
According to police sources, Kang’ethe brother Brian was pulled out of a house located in Oloolua, Ngong after a sting operation by officers from the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in conjunction with local detectives led by DCIO Kyalo Mutala of Ngong Division.
Kang’ethe escaped from the Muthaiga Police Station last week on Wednesday after a woman claiming to be his lawyer visited him. Attempts by the police at the station to run after Kang’ethe were futile as he was picked by a vehicle and disappeared into thin air.
His ‘lawyer’ was consequently detained with the four officers on duty on the day of his escape interdicted.
It is yet to be determined how the fugitive was traced. However, it is believed the DCI were tracking Kang’ethe through tracing of his mobile phone as well as people within his close circle.
After his dramatic escape from Muthaiga Police station, detectives started extracting phone call data to identify individuals he had communicated with before his escape.
Kang’ethe is accused of killing a 31-year-old Kenyan-born woman based in Whitman, Massachusetts, whose body was discovered inside a vehicle at Boston’s Logan Airport in November last year.
He escaped the US and went into hiding only to be arrested at a club in Nairobi’s Westlands area on Monday, January 29.
