A 15-year-old boy has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his 50-year-old biological father, John Luyima, in Katovu village, Kamuli Sub County, Kassanda District, Uganda.

The tragic incident occurred on March 7, 2024, during a domestic quarrel.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Rachel Kawala, confirmed the incident and reported that the boy was taken into custody following the murder.

According to Kawala, the father, who had spent the day drinking alcohol, engaged in a quarrel with his wife upon returning home. After having supper, he shifted the argument to his children and began physically assaulting them.

It is alleged that the 15-year-old boy picked up a machete and fatally injured his father.

Kawala expressed concern about the rising cases of domestic violence in the region and urged victims to seek assistance from local authorities and security forces rather than resorting to violence.

The police spokesperson noted that the family had a history of long-standing domestic violence.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Kassanda Health Centre for post-mortem examination as the police continue their investigation into the tragic incident.

Official statistics from Uganda reveal an increase in cases of murder by hacking, with 257 reported cases in 2023 compared to 215 cases in 2022.
