Police have arrested sixteen individuals following a crackdown in Nairobi which led to the recovery of numerous suspected stolen electronic devices, including phones, laptops, and tablets, across various locations.
Mohamed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), announced that the operation, carried out on March 4, 2024, targeted suspicious phone repair shops.
The initiative, prompted by a surge in electronic gadget theft, resulted in the seizure of over 182 mobile phones, a laptop, an iPad, and two heating machines in the Ruai and Kamulu areas.
Amin stated that five individuals, found in possession of the suspected stolen items, were taken into custody.
Additionally, in Kamukunji, detectives confiscated 19 suspected stolen mobile phones, followed by the discovery of 10 more phones at Cianda Market. Three suspects were apprehended at these locations.
The crackdown underscores law enforcement’s commitment to combating theft and illicit trade in stolen electronic devices within the region.
