The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has announced plans for a demonstration to push the government to address their grievances.
In a notice signed by KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, the demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024, commencing at 9:00 am.
“We wish to inform you of our intention to organize a peaceful demonstration to address the Ministry of Health’s disregard for the concerns raised by Kenyan doctors in the industrial action notice,” the notice stated.
The medical practitioners plan to kick off the procession from Kenyatta National Hospital, Ngong Road, proceeding to the Ministry of Health, Parliament, National Treasury, and then to the Council of Governors in Westlands.
“In order to ensure orderliness and the safety of all participants, we kindly request your assistance in providing security during the event. Your cooperation and support in facilitating a peaceful and orderly demonstration would be greatly appreciated,” the notice continued.
This announcement comes amidst an ongoing strike by doctors nationwide, leading to disruptions in services at public hospitals. The doctors are demanding various measures, including the posting of medical interns, release of funds designated for intern deployment, and payment of post-graduate fees.
