Ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid footballer Geremi Njitap has decided to file for divorce following the revelation from a DNA tests that his twin children were actually fathered by his wife’s ex-husband.
The former footballer, who had been under the impression that the children were his own, was shocked to discover the truth about their parentage.
According to court documents, it was stated that “No children have been born from this union” between Geremi and his wife, Laure.
The couple had tied the knot four years after the birth of the twins.
Reports suggest that Laure had initially insisted the children, born in June 2008, were Geremi’s, which led them to formalize their marriage.
However, the revelation of the children’s true paternity dealt a severe blow to their relationship. Divorce papers state that “the discovery that the children were from her previous partner destroyed the couple’s harmony. It caused him a huge emotional shock.”
Prior to his retirement, Geremi enjoyed a successful football career, notably playing 45 times in La Liga for Real Madrid and making 72 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League. He also had stints with Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Ankaragücü, and AE Larisa before ultimately retiring in January 2011.
