Leaders from Mt Kenya led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and all governors snubbed the launch of a football tournament in Meru sponsored by Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Moses Kuria.
Despite the Deputy President and all 11 Mt Kenya governors skipping the event, CS Kuria expressed satisfaction with its success, stating, “The event was simply amazing.”
“If hate and contempt from leaders was an export, Kenya would be very rich,” Kuria had earlier lamented.
Kuria did not expound on which leaders had exemplified hate and contempt although the statement was made at a time when the launch of the event was ongoing.
However, during the event, there was no indication of strained relations between CS Kuria and Deputy President Gachagua.
Kuria mentioned that Gachagua had conveyed his best wishes for the tournament, acknowledging the Deputy President’s absence.
Earlier reports had clarified that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had communicated in advance that he would be unable to attend the football tournament due to his commitment to the burial ceremony of former State House Comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa.
Gachagua was accompanied by prominent leaders from Mt Kenya, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, at the burial.
Despite the absence of the Deputy President and the governors, CS Kuria remained upbeat about the success of the Mt Kenya football tournament launch.
