The Council of Governors (CoG) has convened an extraordinary meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, to address the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike and the implementation of court orders issued by the Employment and Labour Relations court last week.
Anne Waiguru, the chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG), has issued a notice to members of the CoG regarding the urgent meeting, slated to take place on Wednesday, March 27.
The agenda will encompass discussions on the doctors’ strike and the court order issued by the Labour and Employment court on March 15.
This meeting comes amid the continuation of the nationwide strike, now in its 13th day, with doctors in Nakuru and Meru counties intensifying their efforts to compel the government to address their grievances.
In Nakuru, doctors, medical interns, and medical students staged demonstrations, marching from the Nakuru Annex Hospital, through the Governor’s office, to the Nakuru County Assembly and the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Similarly, in Meru County, doctors staged demonstrations in Meru town, expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to reduce medical interns’ stipends by over 90% and plans to post them from April 1.
Medical laboratory officers have also threatened to join the doctors in the nationwide strike, giving the government a 7-day notice starting Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Patients seeking services in public hospitals continue to suffer as the doctors’ strike persists.
