The government has suspended all licenses for all manufacturers of second-generation alcohol, liquors, and spirits.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced on Wednesday, March 06, that these manufacturers will need to reapply for their licenses. The decision, according to Kindiki, is based on section 4(2)k of the Preservation of Public Security Act.
This means that all licenses and certification permits issued by Kenya Revenue Authority and Kenya Bureau of Standards for second-generation alcohol and alcoholic beverage distillers and manufacturers are now suspended with immediate effect.
Furthermore, all existing valid licenses will undergo a fresh vetting process within 21 days from the directive.
Only premises with approved licenses will be allowed to resume operations once they receive fresh approval.
