Joseph Kuria Irungu, also known as Jowie has been sentenced to death for the murder of Monica Kimani.

Jowie was found guilty last month of brutally murdering businesswoman Monica Nyawira Kimani on the night of September 19, 2018, at her apartment in Lamuria Gardens, Nairobi.

In her judgment delivered on March 13, 2024, Justice Nzioka stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Justice Nzioka outlined six key issues in support of the case, including Jowie’s use of a stolen ID belonging to Dominic Bisera Haron to access Monica Kimani’s house two days before her murder.

Additionally, the court found that Jowie borrowed a gun from a close friend, Brian Kasaine, to subdue Monica Kimani, despite claiming not to know her.

The prosecution presented evidence indicating that Jowie and Monica Kimani were in the same class at Kenya Polytechnic and had communicated on Instagram, further supporting the case against him.
