Kenya showcased their athletic prowess by securing four gold medals, boosting the nation’s spirits during the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Kenya now has a total of 20 medals (4 gold, 5 silver, and 11 bronze) and currently lies 11th on the table.
The winning streak began early in the day with Emily Ngii clinching gold in the women’s 20km race with a time of 1:37:34. She was followed by Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Teshager and Algeria’s Souad Azzi.
Shortly after, Mary Moraa, the world 800m champion, claimed Kenya’s second gold medal by triumphing in the 400m final with a time of 50.57 seconds. She was followed by Nigeria’s Joseph Esther Elo and Burkina Faso’s Sibiri Sita.
Beatrice Chepkoech, the world record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, secured Kenya’s third gold medal by setting a new games record of 9:15.61 in the 3000m steeplechase final. She was joined on the podium by Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai and Ethiopia’s Tefera Muleta.
The winning streak continued with Aaron Chemenigwa capturing Kenya’s fourth gold medal by winning the men’s 800m final with a time of 1:45.72. He was followed closely by his compatriot Alex Kipngetich, with Botswana’s Nkape Tumo taking bronze.
Samuel Gathimba also contributed to Kenya’s medal tally by securing a silver medal in the men’s 20km walk event.
Kenya’s impressive performance has put them back in contention for top honors at the continental games.
