Tragedy struck along the Tipis – Olbaoi road on Saturday when a man lost his life in a harrowing accident while attempting to retrieve potatoes from a truck
The incident occurred as the lorry was stationed for the unloading of potatoes before its return journey to the farm. Joseph Kang’ethe ventured to gather some concealed potatoes tucked away in a sack at the rear of the truck. Tragically, the driver of the truck, unaware of Kang’ethe’s presence, reversed the vehicle, resulting in Kang’ethe being struck and fatally injured.
Kang’ethe was swiftly transported to Mau Narok Health Centre, where medical personnel pronounced him deceased upon arrival. His remains were subsequently transferred to Egerton University’s mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, authorities have impounded the truck, which is currently held at the Njoro police station yard pending further inspection.
In a separate incident reported on the same day, a startling discovery unfolded in the Wangwachi area of Laikipia County. While farmers were engaged in land cultivation activities, they stumbled upon an explosive device within their farmland.
Promptly responding to the scene, officers from the Sipili Police Station identified the device as a 60 mm live bomb. As a precautionary measure, the bomb was carefully relocated to the Sipili police station premises, where it awaits safe disposal. Authorities have alerted bomb disposal experts, who are en route to address the situation and ensure the safe handling of the explosive device.
