A tragic incident has rocked the Biretwo area of Elgeyo Marakwet County, where a middle-aged man allegedly stoned his wife to death

The suspect, identified as Boniface Kokwon, reportedly flew into a rage after suspecting his wife, Ivy Chelagat, of stealing from his shop and subsequently opening her own establishment just 100 meters away.

The shocking incident unfolded on Saturday morning, leaving residents in disbelief as they witnessed the harrowing scene. “We found the lady lying dead, and the man was holding a knife. You could see the big stone he used to hit her head,” recounted Simon Kiplagat, a local businessman.

Following the incident, Kokwon was swiftly apprehended and is currently being held in custody at the Iten Police station.

The Biretwo area serves as a bustling hub for mango trade, attracting vendors from Tot and the lower regions of the Kerio Valley. The tragedy has cast a somber shadow over the community, prompting reflection and concern among its residents.
