Detectives investigating the tragic death of a 19-year-old girl, who reportedly fell from the 10th floor of an apartment in Thome estate, Kasarani area, have revealed that her boyfriend whom they checked in together in the short stay rental was also stabbed.
The detectives are focusing on three individuals who were in contact with the deceased and her partner, who was discovered unconscious with stab wounds inside a rented short-stay house.
CCTV footage reviewed by the detectives revealed the last moments of the couple as they checked into the apartment around 3 am on Saturday, following a night of revelry.
Lawrence Gitonga, the boyfriend, was seen in the footage, guiding the girl towards the apartment, where she was later found dead wearing only a t-shirt.
The footage shows Gitonga initially heading in the wrong direction before correcting himself and proceeding to the short-stay apartment. He retrieved the keys, opened the door, and the girl entered first, followed by Gitonga. This marked the final sighting of the girl before her lifeless body was discovered outside the apartment.
In a startling twist, Gitonga was found unconscious inside the apartment with multiple stab wounds to his chest and back. Bloodstains found within the apartment suggested a violent struggle.
Initial investigations suggest the possibility that the girl either jumped or was pushed from the apartment balcony. The detectives are also scrutinizing CCTV footage from a club in the Roysambu area, where the couple is believed to have met before heading to Thome.
Gitonga, now considered the main suspect, is currently under police guard at Uhai Neema Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The body of the deceased girl is at the City Mortuary, awaiting identification by family members before a post-mortem examination can be scheduled later this week.
