Security Forces Detain Over 430 Individuals in Kilifi County Crackdown
Kilifi county has witnessed a surge in arrests as security personnel escalate efforts to clamp down on unlicensed bars and illicit brews. County Commissioner Josphat Biwott revealed that more than 430 people have been apprehended in connection with these illegal activities.
From his office, Biwott disclosed that over 255 raids have been conducted since the operation commenced. As a result, approximately 150 non-compliant alcoholic outlets have been shut down.
“The operation is on course as per the government directive. No stone will be left unturned in the operation. We are cooperating with our officers from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti- Counterfeit Authority (ACA) and the County Government Liquor Licensing officers,” he said.
Biwott said over 9,345 litres of illicit brews were destroyed during the operation.
“We have managed to destroy over 195 litres of Chang’aa, 7,665 litres of Kangara and 1485 litres of Mnazi, the culprits abetting consumption of the brew will be paraded in various courts within the county to face charges,” said Biwott.
