Disney has unveiled the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” a prequel to the 2019 photorealistic remake of “The Lion King,” and announced that Blue Ivy Carter has joined the voice cast.
In this installment, Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored. Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will lend their voices to the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively.
James Earl Jones, who previously voiced Mufasa in the 2019 remake, will likely reprise his role.
Many members of the 2019 voice cast are set to return, including John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala.
Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, will make her voice acting debut as Kiara, the offspring of King Simba and Queen Nala.
The screenplay for “Mufasa” will be penned by Jeff Nathanson, who also wrote the 2019 remake.
