The Defence Council is currently holding an emergency meeting following a KDF helicopter crash in Kaben, Marakwet East. Sources indicated that the Defence Council meeting was convened to assess the situation following the helicopter crash and issue a statement to the country.
The Kenya Air Force Huey Helicopter had taken off from a local primary school when it went down and burst into flames.
The helicopter is reported to have been carrying 12 people, including officers with the rank of General, when it crashed. Chief of Defense Forces General Francis Ogolla was among the occupants of the ill-fated crash.
There was only one survivor, believed to be a photographer, according to other officers on the scene.
The Defence Council is chaired by the Defense Cabinet Secretary. It serves as the highest decision-making body involved in the day-to-day operations of the Kenya Defence Forces. It is responsible for both short and long-term operations and strategies of the Kenya Defence Forces.
