The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has partially closed four roads in Nairobi due to heavy flooding, issuing a traffic advisory for motorists on Mombasa Road and Thika Road.

Aerodrome Road, which runs along the Upper side of the Nyayo National Stadium and Upper Hill, Nairobi, has been closed down. Additionally, Kapenguria Road, located off Waiyaki Way near Ndumbuini, has become impassable, and motorists are advised to avoid it.

Another key road, UN Avenue, cutting through Runda, has been partially closed. Moreover, the Kasarani-Mwiki Road has been partially closed at the Mwiki Bridge.

KURA has issued a traffic advisory for motorists on Mombasa Road at Cabanas and Thika Road at Githurai and the Kahawa Sukari bridge.

Although traffic police and technical teams are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance safety, motorists are urged to exercise caution.

The road closures follow heavy downpours in various parts of the city, causing floods and disruption on major roads. In the Central Business District, two trees fell along Moi Avenue, blocking access for both motorists and pedestrians.

Furthermore, heavy traffic congestion was experienced on Wednesday morning along major highways as lanes were closed, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

In response to safety concerns, the Kenya Railways Authority has suspended commuter trains within the city.
