The Kenya Defence Forces are set to pay tribute to their late leader, General Francis Ogolla, with full military honours, including a military parade and a 19-gun salute, on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
According to a statement from Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, President William Ruto will attend the event.
“The honours will include a church service, military parade and a 19-gun salute. President William Ruto, the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, will attend the ceremony,” said Duale.
“Others will be Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Senior government officials, the leadership of Parliament, the Judiciary, political leaders, commanders of the security sector and members of the Diplomatic Corps.”
General Ogolla lost his life on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in a helicopter crash in the Sindar area of Elgeyo Marakwet County, alongside nine other military officers.

The late General’s wish for a swift burial within 72 hours of his passing will be honored, with his final resting place designated as his home in Ngiya village, Siaya County.
On Sunday, April 21, 2024, General Ogolla’s remains will be airlifted to Ng’iya village, Alego Usonga Sub-county, Siaya County, for burial on the same day, following a church service at his local church in Nduru.
