The Kenya Red Cross, in collaboration with the police, successfully rescued a child stranded by floodwaters in Katangi, Machakos, on Tuesday.

The child, who had been marooned for an extended period, was then airlifted to hospital for medical attention.

In an official statement, the Kenya Red Cross highlighted the joint effort with the Kenya Police, stating, “After relentless efforts and with the support of the Kenya Police, we successfully rescued a child who was stranded by floodwaters in Katangi, Machakos.”

Describing the condition of the child, the statement noted, “The child, visibly shaken by the ordeal after being stranded for quite a long period, was safely rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for care.”

The recent heavy rainfall in Machakos has caused significant damage, leaving many residents trapped in their homes as floodwaters inundated their houses.

Over the weekend, 15 people were rescued from their flood-marooned residences in Kinanie, Machakos.
