Authorities have launched a search for six individuals who went missing after a boat capsized on Sunday in Lake Baringo.
A multi-agency response team, including the Kenya Red Cross, community members, and marine guards, is actively involved in the operation. So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while 16 others have been rescued.
Baringo County Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed the incident, stating that 23 church members, mostly youth from Revival Church, were traveling from Salabani sub-locations to Kokwa Island in Lake Baringo.
According to Kiragu, the boat capsized midway due to strong tides in the lake. Preliminary investigations suggest that the boat, which should have a capacity of eight people, was overloaded, leading to the tragic incident.
