A wanted terror suspect, who was involved in the brutal murder of a police officer and two chiefs in Lamu County in 2019, has been arrested.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that Mustakima Mohammed Ali, also known as Abu Mahir, was apprehended in a Malindi-bound bus on Sunday afternoon at the Sambaki Bridge roadblock.
According to the DCI, after the December 2019 murders, Ali and his accomplices went into hiding, initially within the Boni Forest, and were later discovered by security officials, prompting them to flee to a neighboring country. His suspected gang members were subsequently arrested in April 2023 along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while heading to Somalia. “They were charged at the Kahawa Law Courts, and their case is ongoing,” said the DCI.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other identified suspects who are still at large.
