Members and officials of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Nyanza have decided to suspend their grassroots elections following the tragic demise of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla.
Kennedy Obuya, the interim chairman of UDA in Homa Bay, announced this decision as a mark of respect for Ogolla and to allow the community time to grieve.
Obuya added that they are in communication with UDA’s national office, particularly the National Elections Board, to discuss the possibility of postponing the party’s upcoming elections slated for this month.
Kennedy Ondiek, UDA’s coordinator for South Nyanza, acknowledged the somber mood brought about by Ogolla’s untimely death and that of other servicemen.
He appealed for calm as the government conducts investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Ogolla, along with nine other military personnel, lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Thursday in the Sindar area of Elgeyo Marakwet County around 2:20 pm.
President William Ruto subsequently declared three days of national mourning following the passing of the CDF.
