Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged unity among Mt Kenya leaders in support of the One Man-One Vote-One Shilling formula, labeling dissenters as traitors.
Addressing mourners at a burial service, Gachagua emphasized the importance of implementing the formula and likened opposition to it as betrayal akin to collaboration with colonizers during the independence struggle.
His remarks come in response to recent criticism of the formula by figures like President Ruto’s Chief Economic Advisor David Ndii, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria. These critics argue that regions like the Coast contribute more taxable revenue to the state compared to Mt Kenya.
Kuria, in particular, opposed the policy, citing the representation of Mt Kenya in the government’s top ranks.
