The Kenya Meteorological Department has published the weather forecast for the period from May 28 to June 3, 2024. The forecast indicates a mix of weather patterns across different regions, including showers, thunderstorms, and sunny intervals.
The department’s forecast highlights a reduction in rainfall for some areas. However, regions such as the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and Rift Valley are expected to continue receiving rainfall during this period. The forecast notes, “Sunny intervals are expected in the morning. Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places.”
For the Coast, North Eastern, and North Western regions, daytime temperatures are projected to be above 30 degrees Celsius. The department also warns of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) in these areas.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, mornings are likely to be cloudy, giving way to sunny intervals later in the day. Occasional showers are expected in the afternoon and evening, while nights will be partly cloudy.
The Central Highlands will experience night temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the Coast and North Eastern regions will face strong winds during this period.
The forecast further mentions that moderate rainfall is anticipated in some parts of the country tonight, particularly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.
The Kenya Meteorological Department urges Kenyans to stay updated with more forecasts from its official social media pages or the office of County Directors of Meteorology. This will provide accurate information that can help in planning daily activities accordingly.
Over the past few months, different parts of Kenya have experienced heavy rainfall, leading to displacement and significant losses for many residents. The department advises Kenyans living in riparian areas to relocate to avoid being affected by potential flooding.
The department’s forecast is aimed at helping Kenyans prepare for the varied weather conditions expected in the coming week, ensuring they take necessary precautions to stay safe.
