Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua met with Pastor Victor Kanyari on Friday following a public outcry over the pastor’s TikTok content. The meeting addressed a wide range of issues regarding appropriate online behavior, according to Mutua.
Mutua explained that the meeting occurred at Kanyari’s request after Mutua had flagged his TikTok content as inappropriate. “Pastor Victor Kanyari is genuinely remorseful. He apologized publicly and committed to change, even going live on TikTok to begin the new journey under my mentorship,” Mutua stated.
Mutua further emphasized his support for Kanyari’s repentance and new direction. “Despite my busy schedule, I agreed to meet him today. After listening to his story and genuine apology, we prayed together, and I took up the responsibility of mentoring him,” Mutua said. He prayed for Kanyari’s protection and guidance, urging him to stay on the right path and resist false accusations.
Mutua also delivered a message to Kanyari and his critics, “My message to Pastor Victor Kanyari: ‘Go and sin no more.’ And to his accusers: ‘Let anyone of you who has not sinned cast the first stone.'”
Kanyari expressed his fear upon learning that Mutua had flagged his content as inappropriate. “I was shocked when I saw Mutua’s comments and wondered how I could ask for forgiveness and understand my mistakes,” Kanyari said.
Kanyari has been hosting live sessions on TikTok that have sparked extensive debate. While some viewers found his content inappropriate for a man of faith, others supported it. The controversy led Mutua to warn that he would take action against Kanyari if necessary. “Kanyari must be stopped. That’s not a church he is running. It’s a mockery of the church and a disgrace to the Christian faith,” Mutua stated.
Mutua also indicated he is liaising with government agencies to address the misuse of digital platforms. “Allowing such misuse of digital platforms to normalize evil is something we should not celebrate or condone,” he added.
