Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei has suggested that President William Ruto’s upcoming visit to the United States on May 21, 2024, will include meetings with several top Hollywood figures.
In an interview on Citizen TV’s JKL show, Sing’oei revealed that Ruto plans to visit the renowned Tyler Perry Studios, where he will meet with Tyler Perry himself. Sing’oei emphasized that these meetings aim to strengthen partnerships between Kenya’s film industry and Hollywood.
“As part of this visit, the President will tour Tyler Perry Studios and meet with Tyler Perry, along with other influential figures in the Hollywood ecosystem. This presents an opportunity to discuss collaboration between Kenya and Hollywood in unlocking the potential of the film industry,” Sing’oei stated.
Additionally, Ruto will be attending a major diaspora event in Atlanta during his visit.
“This event will be the culmination of a significant diaspora gathering. Considering the large Kenyan diaspora in the Atlanta area, discussions will focus on diaspora investment, remittances, and avenues for diaspora involvement in our economy,” Sing’oei explained.
In December, President Ruto had announced that starting January 2024, the Grammy Awards would shoot multiple movies in Kenya. He made this announcement during the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, highlighting the partnership between Kenya and Hollywood’s innovation studios in nurturing local talent and promoting the country’s creative economy.
