President William Ruto has announced the reopening of all schools on Monday, May 13, 2024, following improved weather forecasts indicating a reduction in heavy rains that previously led to the postponement of school reopening.
In addition to the reopening directive, President Ruto has instructed that funds for the reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by heavy rains be made available through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Initially, schools were scheduled to reopen on April 29, 2024, but due to disruptions caused by heavy rains, the reopening was postponed to May 6, 2024.
However, last Friday, President Ruto directed the Ministry of Education to indefinitely postpone the reopening of all schools in response to the flooding crisis caused by the rains.
