United Democratic Alliance (UDA) acting Secretary General Cleophas Malala has claimed that the party’s official Facebook page has been hacked. In a video shared on Friday, Malala stated that the hacking was perpetrated by an individual known to the party but not part of the secretariat.
“I want to announce that our communication platform, that is our official UDA Facebook page, has been hacked,” Malala said.
“We have reported the incident to Facebook administrators. Anything posted on the page should be ignored.”
Malala expressed confidence that the party would soon recover the account and urged the public to remain calm.
Contrary to Malala’s claims, President William Ruto’s digital strategist, Dennis Itumbi, denied that the party’s social media pages had been compromised.
“The United Democratic Alliance, @UDAKenya, Pages are safe across social media. Ignore anyone saying anything to the contrary,” Itumbi tweeted.
This development follows a recent clash between Malala and the National Elections Board (NEB) over the status of constituency elections in West Pokot. Malala had announced the suspension of the elections, but NEB chairperson Anthony Mwaura dismissed his announcement, stating that Malala had no authority to suspend polls. The communication from Mwaura dismissing Malala’s directive was first posted on Facebook but was later flagged as fake, affirming that Malala’s directive on the poll still stood.
The dispute comes amid reports of internal tensions within the ruling party.
