Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has stated that the state has a strong case against five suspects currently in custody in connection with the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, known as Sniper.
Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, Kindiki addressed concerns regarding any delays in the case, asserting that investigations had been ongoing without interruption.
He explained that due to the complexity of the crime, investigative agencies are exploring the involvement of other potential participants. However, Kindiki emphasized that the state has solid evidence against the five suspects already in custody.
“Investigations were initiated promptly after the incident was reported, and it is incorrect to suggest any delay in the investigative process. This is a complex case, and while there may be other individuals involved, we have yet to establish direct or circumstantial evidence to charge additional suspects. However, we have a strong murder case against the five individuals,” Kindiki stated.
Kindiki reassured the Senators that the case has not concluded, affirming that all those involved in Sniper’s murder will be held accountable.
He expressed confidence in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), particularly highlighting the efforts of the Homicide Unit, and assured that there is no cause for concern.
“Investigations are ongoing, and the murder file remains open. There is no statute of limitations on murder offenses, and therefore, I assure the house that all individuals, whether directly or indirectly involved in the cruel murder of the deceased, will be brought to justice,” the CS concluded.
