Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the most subscribed YouTuber, surpassing the popular music company T-Series. MrBeast announced this achievement on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), celebrating the moment as a victory for the YouTube community and expressing pride in “avenging” Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie.
MrBeast’s YouTube channel has amassed an impressive 267 million subscribers, overtaking T-Series, which stands at 266 million followers. In his announcement, MrBeast shared a picture displaying the latest subscription figures and wrote, “After 6 years we have finally avenged PewDiePie.”
For context, MrBeast had expressed his support for PewDiePie last year, stating, “I’m doing this for PewDiePie,” reflecting the camaraderie and competitive spirit among top YouTubers. PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, was previously the most subscribed YouTuber before being surpassed by T-Series.
In a playful twist last month, MrBeast challenged the Chief Executive Officer of T-Series to a boxing match. At the time, T-Series was the most subscribed YouTube channel, and MrBeast was quickly closing in. Sharing the picture of the subscriber count, the 26-year-old wrote, “I challenge the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match.” Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series, was the implied opponent, although the CEO’s name is not listed on the company’s official website.
PewDiePie, who gained fame through his video game commentaries, was once the highest-earning YouTuber globally and had surpassed T-Series to become the most subscribed. However, his journey hit a rough patch in 2017 when Disney cut ties with him over videos containing controversial Nazi references. In 2020, PewDiePie announced a hiatus from posting content on YouTube when he had 102 million subscribers.
