Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has filed a petition in a Los Angeles court to legally change her last name by dropping ‘Pitt.’ The teenager, who turned 18 on May 27, submitted the legal request on her birthday to become ‘Shiloh Jolie.’
This development comes against the backdrop of her parents’ prolonged and highly publicized divorce proceedings. The couple, who share six children, separated in 2016 after Jolie accused Pitt of choking one of their children during a tumultuous trans-Atlantic flight. Jolie subsequently filed for divorce. Although the divorce process continues, a “bifurcated judgement” granted in 2019 declared both parties legally single.
Should the court approve her petition, Shiloh will follow in the footsteps of her sister, Zahara Marley Jolie, who publicly adopted her mother’s surname in 2022. This move by Shiloh marks another significant moment in the ongoing and complex separation saga of Jolie and Pitt.
