Over time, cached files accumulate on your Windows 11 system, potentially slowing down performance. Clearing these temporary files can free up storage, enhance speed, and improve overall system responsiveness. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to clear cache on Windows 11.

1. Clear Temporary Files Using Windows Storage Settings

Windows provides a built-in tool to remove unnecessary temporary files.

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Navigate to System > Storage.
  3. Click on Temporary files.
  4. Select the files you want to delete, such as Temporary Files, Windows Update Cleanup, and Recycle Bin.
  5. Click Remove files to delete them.

2. Use the Disk Cleanup Tool

The Disk Cleanup tool is another way to remove cached data.

  1. Press Windows + S, type Disk Cleanup, and select it.
  2. Choose your system drive (usually C:) and click OK.
  3. Check the boxes for Temporary Files, Thumbnails, and other unnecessary data.
  4. Click OK, then confirm by selecting Delete Files.

3. Clear Windows Store Cache

If you experience issues with the Microsoft Store, clearing its cache can help.

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type wsreset and press Enter.
  3. A blank Command Prompt window will appear and close automatically, indicating that the Windows Store cache has been cleared.

4. Clear Browser Cache

A slow browser can often be improved by clearing its cache.

For Microsoft Edge & Google Chrome:

  1. Open your browser and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete.
  2. Select Cached images and files.
  3. Click Clear data.

5. Flush DNS Cache

Flushing the DNS cache can help resolve internet connectivity issues.

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Type the following command and press Enter: ipconfig /flushdns
  3. You’ll see a confirmation message indicating that the DNS Resolver Cache has been cleared.

6. Restart Your ComputerAfter clearing all cache files, restart your PC to apply the changes and ensure optimal performance.

Final Thoughts

Regularly clearing cache on Windows 11 can significantly boost system speed and prevent unnecessary slowdowns. Make it a habit to follow these steps periodically to keep your PC running efficiently!
