Dating just got way less awkward and way more fun.
Tinder has launched a new Double Date feature that lets you team up with your friends to swipe and match with other pairs — turning solo dating into a squad experience. It’s currently rolling out in the US and goes global in July 2025.
So, how does it work?
You’ll spot a new Double Date icon in the top-right corner of the app. Tap it, invite up to three friends, and start pairing up. You’ll then scroll through profiles shown side-by-side — yours and your friend’s, matched with another duo. A match happens when at least one person from each pair swipes right. Boom — a four-person group chat opens and the vibes can officially begin.
This isn’t just about dating. It’s about bringing your friends along for the ride — and shaking off some of that first-date awkwardness.
“This is a social-first experience meant to help relieve some of the pressure that Gen Z feels around dating,” said Cleo Long, Tinder’s head of product marketing, in a chat with The Verge. “It’s more fun, more relaxed, and adds a comfort layer when your friends are involved.”
Tinder is entering its squad era
The Double Date feature is Tinder’s answer to rising competition from apps like Doubble and Fourplay, both built for group dating.
But this isn’t Tinder’s first attempt to get more social. In recent years, the app added tools that let friends suggest matches for you and share your date plans for safety — part of a wider trend where Gen Z is reshaping dating culture to feel less intimidating and more real.
If you’re already using Tinder, this is the perfect time to bring your bestie along and explore what the app’s latest update offers. If you’re not on Tinder yet — well, now you’ve got one more reason to check it out.
Final swipe
Whether you’re in it for romance, friendship, or just some laughs, Double Date is Tinder’s way of saying: “Dating doesn’t have to be solo.” It’s rolling out globally in July, so grab your squad and get ready.
